Dúchas

from €195 per night (2 night min)

Duchas is a secluded, off-grid cabin, hidden in a mature native woodland beside the Owenmore River in North Mayo. Set at the edge of an old walled garden on a historic Irish estate, it’s surrounded by ancient beech trees, abundant birdsong and a landscape rich in history, with ring forts, standing stones and megalithic tombs nearby.

The cabin has everything you need for a quiet escape: a king-size bed, hot shower, solar-powered kitchen, and a private wood-fired sauna and cold plunge overlooking the river.

What do I need to know?

Duchas is for couples, friends and solo travellers looking to spend proper time in Irish nature and connect with the country’s ancient past. Sleeping two, the cabin is secluded among woodland beside the river, with ring forts, megalithic tombs and a 6,000-year-old landscape in the surrounding area.

Just 20 minutes from Ballina and 10 minutes from the shores of Lough Conn, you are well placed to explore the surrounding Mayo has to offer. Come to switch off in complete seclusion, or use it as your base to explore the wild beauty of the North Coast.

A few things to know: The cabin is a 300m walk from the car park along a pebble path; a wheelbarrow is provided for luggage. Being deep in nature means you’ll hear the wind, rain and wildlife around you. Phone signal is limited and mobile data can be patchy, so we recommend downloading your directions before you leave.

How do I get to the cabin?

Once booked, we will provide you with an exact pin for you to find your cabin. But for now you can know it’s located about 5 minutes from the village Moygownagh in Mayo

By car
3:30 drive from Dublin – 250km & 2:15 drive from Galway – 105km

By Public transport
There are a number of routes into Ballina – A taxi would then be required from Ballina to the site. We would recommend prebooking the taxi.

What else to I need to know

Is there phone service?

Mobile reception at the cabin is very limited. You can make and receive calls, but mobile data is unreliable, so most apps and online services may not work. We recommend downloading anything you might need before you arrive.

What is the minimum night stay?

There is a two night minimum stay. The check in days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

What should I bring with me?

Bring sturdy footwear, especially during the wetter winter months when some of the trails can become muddy. We also recommend picking up any food and supplies you’ll need before arriving, as the cabin is tucked away from nearby shops.
