Everything you need to know

Is there phone service?

Mobile reception at the cabin is very limited. You can make and receive calls, but mobile data is unreliable, so most apps and online services may not work. We recommend downloading anything you might need before you arrive.

What is the minimum night stay?

There is a two night minimum stay. The check in days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

What should I bring with me?

Bring sturdy footwear, especially during the wetter winter months when some of the trails can become muddy. We also recommend picking up any food and supplies you’ll need before arriving, as the cabin is tucked away from nearby shops.

Can I bring my Dog?

Dogs are welcome for an additional €40, which covers the extra cleaning. We simply ask that they’re kept on a lead around the estate to help protect the wildlife and livestock nearby.

Where is the closet shop?

We would advise stocking up on everything you need before you arrive so you can enjoy your stay at the cabin. There are grocery stores in Ballina (a large town with plenty of options, Lidle, Tesco, Dunes Stores), which is a 20-minute drive from the cabin. You also have Crossmonlina, which is a much smaller town with two small grocery stores. If you just need to pick up some essentials, this is your best option.

Do I need to pay in full to book a stay

Payment depends on how far ahead you’re booking. For stays within 45 days, full payment is required at the time of booking. For bookings made further in advance, a 25% deposit secures your stay, with the remaining balance due closer to your arrival.

What kitchen facilities are in the cabin?

The kitchen has two gas rings, pots, pans and a whistling kettle, plus a 200-litre solar-powered fridge (no freezer). We provide the essentials: salt, pepper, oil, tea, coffee and sugar.

Can I check in early or check out late?

Check-in is from 4pm and we’re unable to offer early check-in. Late check-out is available as an optional extra when booking, allowing you to stay until 12pm instead of the usual 10am.

Will I bump into other people during my stay?

Duchas is tucked away in the woodland and designed to feel private and secluded. You’re unlikely to encounter other people during your stay, so you can enjoy the cabin, river and surrounding nature at your own pace.

Is there parking at the cabin?

Yes, there is free parking available on the estate. From the car park, it’s around a 300m walk along a natural pebble path to the cabin. A wheelbarrow is provided to help with your luggage.

What do I need for the Sauna?

Bath and hand towels are provided, but we recommend bringing an extra towel specifically for the sauna and cold plunge. Bring flip flops for the walk down and a bottle of water to stay hydrated.
